Our Year 10 students had the opportunity yesterday to hear from Shane Yarrow, who shared his personal story of being separated from his mother through forced adoption in Australia.
Term 2, Week 2
Hello, my name is Chloe Adamovics, and I am excited to be joining the teaching team at Staines Memorial College this term. This is the fifth year of my career as a teacher; I was a Year 5 teacher at Fernbrooke State School for 4 years (2019-2022).
I was raised in a Christian home, and am the eldest of three sisters. My family has always resided in Bellbird Park, moving houses once when I was around eight years old. I completed my high school studies via distance education with Groves Christian College, commencing a Bachelor of Education (Middle Years of Schooling) with Honours the following year in 2014. During the final year of my undergraduate studies, I was fortunate to conduct a negotiated curriculum participatory action research project at St. Aidan’s Anglican Girls School, which consolidated my love for research, curriculum development, and contributing to the academic discourse in education. Last year, I graduated from UQ with a second degree—Master of Educational Studies (Curriculum and Leadership).
Around eight to nine years ago, I started attending group fitness classes at my local gym. This led to me completing a Certificate III in Fitness and becoming a Zumba instructor for a short time. In realising how much I enjoyed dance, I went on to pursue ballroom dancing, of which I am currently working towards a fifth round of examinations. In addition to fitness pursuits, I enjoy playing two instruments (violin and harp), reading, writing, learning Hindi, watching period dramas/Lord of the Rings/Disney films and building Lego.
As an INFJ, I am driven by a strong sense of purpose and am deeply committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those around me. Loyalty, conscientiousness, and perseverance are three qualities I feel really define me. I value and strive for deep, meaningful connections with others. I approach tasks with meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to excellence, and determination to reach my goals. Staying true to my Christian values and beliefs is important to me, as well as steadfastly pursuing personal and professional growth.

Faced with an enemy he couldn’t conquer on his own, King Asa prayed, ‘… “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.” The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. …’ (2 Chronicles 14:11-12 NIV).
Persistence, determination, commitment, and recognising the ‘right time to throw away’ are all commendable qualities, whether it’s setting aside time to pray and read every day, eating dinner with your family, finding a better job, or losing weight, etc.
