Japanese Students—Australian Schooling Experience
Over the last week, we were delighted to welcome 41 students and 2 teachers from Sangyou Kyoto University High School in Japan for a special week of cultural exchange and shared learning.
The students joined us to experience Australian schooling firsthand—getting a feel for life in our classrooms and our everyday rhythms here at Staines. Throughout their visit, their tutor set them tasks designed to help them explore Australian culture, practise their English conversation skills, and also share aspects of Japanese culture with us.
We had a fantastic time together! The students taught our classes the art of origami, experienced some of Australia’s native wildlife thanks to our special guests from Wild Rangers, challenged our Secondary students to a friendly basketball match, and got right into the spirit of Harmony Day by joining in a lively tug of war. We are so thankful for this time together—it’s been a week to remember!

Harmony Day
Harmony Day at Staines Memorial College was a beautiful reminder of the diverse and inclusive community we’re blessed to be part of. Students embraced the day with joy, wearing their cultural attire or a splash of orange to show their support.
Year 9 Science
Mr Scherman’s Year 9 science class took a hands-on approach to learning as students suited up in plastic aprons and safety glasses, ready to explore the intricate structure of the eye. With cow eyes as their specimens, they carefully dissected and examined the different parts, from the cornea to the optic nerve, gaining a deeper understanding of how vision works.
